I did a narrative obs on communication, I got a hell of a lot covered. The few down sides to narrative obs was keeping up with what the child was saying so i used alot of abbreviations then re wrote my work so the reader could understand. Also as I was close to the child when writing up what she said this distracted her at times (she seemed aware that she was being observed and this stopped her doing a few things and asking me what i was doing)
I did a time sample on social and social, emotional and moral. Again downside was that I missed key things she did and said that were not in the allocated time slot, relating to Soc, emo and moral development
Tick chart for physical, great and easy to use but there were things she could/couldnt do that were not asked for specifically in the tick chart form.
Hope this helps
