Default Outdoor Chalk

Just tried out this tip for using those big chunky chalk sticks - it works!

Put the chalk into a pot or bucket and cover with water, add a cup (5-6 tablespoons) sugar and leave overnight until the bubbles have stopped. The wet chalk has a different texture and the sugar really boosts the colour! If you are going to be colouring the pavement, wet it first for a more intense result. Alternatively use on wet card/ wet chalk board. Try colouring other items: pinecones, rocks, polystyrene tiles, fabric and also apparently it works well as a body paint - but beware of eyes!

Try it and have fun!

some chalk was left outside in the rain at nursery...so we used it wet & it had a very different feel to it. we made lovely pavement pictures which seemed to last longer.

Thanks, I've been trying to think how I can occupy three children for the next five weeks. DD/DS will love drawing on the pavement with chalk, I'll have to buy some next week.

If you have a Wilkinsons, their chalk 'soaks' better than any others we have. Think they're about to have a sale too.

Be careful chalking on pavements some councils don't permit this.Stupid I know as rain washes it off. They say it lowers the tone of the area.Even hopscotch is bared

It lowers the tone? :muted: So residents can let cars drip oil on the road, dump furniture in back lanes, let dogs run wild, even deal drugs, and children cannot have some fun???? :soapbox:
