Hiya, have been given this unit about ICT but have struggled all the way through it. I am especially struggling with the following questions and have been told by my assessor to just use my own views as there is no information on these questions. Could someone please help as I don't have a clue how to answer them. Thank you for reading.

k3c572 - How to make best use of ICT in bilingual or multilingual settings

k3d575 – How to involve families in ICT in ways that are sensitive to their prior knowledge and level of confidence

k3p578 – usefulonline and offline resources that support appropriate use of ICT

k3p579 – As ICT is a rapidly developing and changing area how you will keep up to date in order to ensure you provide the best service to children and families

k3d580 - Ways of selecting good quality ICT resources that encourage positive learning for children by applying selection criteria e.g.

*allows the child to be in control
* has more than one solution
* not violent or stereo typed
*easy to use 'intuitive'
*fun

Hi, it may help if you identify all the items in your setting that relate to ict.

Items that have switches, dials, knobs, levers, buttons, handles that respond with an action when interacted with.

Electronic toys from amazon, directional toys, remote controlled.
Musical toys, learning toys.
Cameras, phones, computers, mice, keyboard, printer, fax, white boards.
Dvd, cd, mp3, vhs, cassette players, headphones, microphones, speakers.
Television, radio, game consoles, controls.
Telephones, rip cord dolls, wind up resources, interactive dolls/bears.
Clocks, alarms, timers, alert systems, stop watches
Torches, lights, light box,
Play equipment such as cookers, oven, washing machine, microwave, dish washer, kettle, toaster, sewing machine, food mixer, blender, irons, hoover.
Hair dryer, tongs, straighteners.
Ignitions - fire lighters, engines - car, bus, lorry, bike, lawn mower, tractor, heating ..
Dispensors - tickets, fuel, vending machines ..

Trigger actions that help introduce the concept of ict:
Guns - bullet, dart, staple, glue, sprays
Magnets, connective activities, aquadoodle
Braking systems - pushchairs, bikes, trolleys

k3c572 - make the most by looking at what's needed. What you already have and how to expand on that. Use tecnology to print, communicate with children, parents, other professionals. Find out more information, play games, mark make, plan.

k3d575 it's good to always know that individual experience of ict is incredibly varied and understanding that electronic communication may or may not be welcomed.

Getting to know parents and famillies will enable you to suggest ideas, enquire about their interest in ict - maybe your setting sends email newletters to reduce costs, has a website that parents can visit, pass on information that may be of interest. Invite ideas in.

Direct.gov.uk getting online
www.ukonlinecentres.com
BBC's webwise
CEOP - staying safe online and Think you know
Glossary of internet terms
computers and posture

For children online there are many game, learning and exploration sites.
Cbeebies - I see you - search online for learning grids
For safety the most important thing children need to know is that anything causing concern needs to be disclosed as quickly as possible.

Set a choosen search provider's filter and search settings appropriately - eg google's preference page

k3d580 - Ways of selecting good quality ICT resources: the best way to find out the suitability of resources is to have a go. Look for reviews, recommendations, information on packaging.

*allows the child to be in control
Will you have to supervise/guide/control any aspect of the programme or toy.
* has more than one solution
How frustrating is it to get stuck on one solution problems and not be able to get past that hurdle.
* not violent or stereo typed
* easy to use 'intuitive'
What's involved with the resource, will a mouse be needed, the keyboard, a pen. Are target areas large for less defined movement or small for precision. Is the amount of written text appropriate for the age group using it.
* fun
What's enjoyable about interacting with this resource?

One thread and excellent K3P579 ICT Rapidly Changing & Developing Area

Hope this helps xx

Default thank you

Hi Ruthierhyme,

thank you so much for your help! It has been of great benefit and I now have an understanding of what I need to write. I wasn't aware that ICT meant anything other than computers and have just talked about computers throughout the rest of the unit.

Greatly appreciated, Shabz.
