A quick search will get you this thread, which covers all the legislation you need to talk about :)
http://www.silkysteps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13166

Child protection comes under the wider banner of safeguarding and promotes the welfare of children and young people

The term ‘safeguarding children’ was a broader term with the idea of rather than protecting the child from harm we should be preventing it from happening. The government defined it as ‘The process of protecting children from abuse or neglect, preventing impairment of their health and development, and ensuring they are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provisions of safe and effecting care that enables children to have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully’

Hope that helps :)

Can I ask where you got the government quote from, I would like to use it but will probably be asked where I found it. Thank you.

I'm having trouble finding the original source of the quote, I think I juts got it from the CYPW workbook. However this document has a pretty close definition on page 34.
