Help SOS Ccld3 303 K3d212

I'm a bit stuck - part of my assignment is "using a spidergram choose an activity that you support in your setting to explain your understanding of how your practice can support holistic development" Yikes. I understand the meaning of holistic and that all parts are interlinked for a whole child. For the spidergram I've chosen speech therapy as i do this everyday.
Should I include what impacts the lack of communication has had on the child (linking it to SPICE), what the developmental stage should be (SPICE), and how the setting provides support. Linking it all holistically is a nightmare. And my spidergram has grown out of control.

you have written '.....an activity that you support in your setting', so I would take it they want to know what you can do to support/aid holistic development - not the impact of a lack of communication - however important it is, you haven't been asked this.

My understanding would be that speech therapy is not an activity but possibly part of a chiild's iep - but you could incorporate this in an communication, language and literacy activity that would support/aid holistic development.

So you may decide to do a ccl activity such living story involving puppets, props such as musical instruments, dance, mark making etc
if you think of an activity you will find it goes across the board, so if you paint is it purely a creative activity? or a physical one? or a personal, social & emotional one etc? So set out your activity in the centre with all your areas of development branching out and explain each 'arm' of development.

Remember to write of all the positive learning opportunities rather than saying - lack of communication meant their creative thinking was not where it should be or living in a high rise flat meant their physical development was behind. The assesor wants to know what you can provide for that child for holistic development.

I hope this helps a little.

thanks for your help - think i have found something (just by luck) to go by in the book by Tassoni/Bulman/Beith on page 123 and will base my answer on a mixture of your help and the spidergram illustrated. Wish me luck ! Kelbur.
