Help SOS Unit 203 - outcome 2

Hi all,

I am new to this and would like a bit of help!

I am stuck on Unit 203 - Communication and Professional relationships with children, young people and adults.

I am on Outcome 2 and need to answer the following questions:-

2.1 - Describe how to establish respectful, professional relationships with adults;

2.2 - Describe the importance of adult relationships as role models for children and young people.

Please help!

This should be covered in your observation if you've had one then you could put in a reflective account. If not;

Demonstrate how to establish rapport and respectful, trusting relationships with children, young people.

In order to establish rapport with children you need make them feel that you are approachable; most children will not willingly approach you for any reason unless they know who you are as some may think that they are in trouble if you approach them first. A lot of younger children are shy and it could take time to build up a rapport and a trusting friendship. It is our responsibility as adults in childcare to establish that connection and engage them in conversation by choosing a language that is appropriate to the developmental level of the child e.g. we would not speak to a 5 year old in the same way as we would speak to a 10 or 11 year old, so keeping in mind the topic of conversation will be significant, also we need to consider whether the child has speech and language difficulties, uses English as a second language or has hearing problems as all these will affect the relationship you are trying to build with the child.
