Default unqualified but manager wants me to supervise

the children without a qualified member of staff present. Am i allowed to do this? I thought all supervisors had to be level 3 or above. I will be working towards my level 3 (went straight in at this level) but i don't want to break the law etc if i'm not allowed to.

Thanks your advice

I had friends as a room leaders not yet qualified but working towards NVQ3 so it is possible. I would only say that at least one of the members needs to be NVQ3 in the playroom. That person does not need to be the supervisor, You can be one, sometimes my old nursery would change the rules if we had staff problems and they would say that someone next door is qualified, and that is enough.
and one more thing... why the manager is not qualified? how he/she got the job? is it the owner? as far I as know manager needs to be qualified, that's why my workplace now has such a staff problems, and when I leave in about a month time the ASCC will be shut, because there is nobody qualified to take over the manager position!

oh sorry i didn't explain it very well lol

We're a new nursery that will be opening in two weeks time. The owners are teachers who won't be working there. So far there are only four members of staff, three are qualified and me (unqualified).

There will be two of us in the baby and toddler room full time, one full time staff in preschool and one part timer in preschool.

My concern is am i allowed to supervise the kids and babies either on the early shift or late shift and breaks etc.

I hope this makes sense, my brain is working too well this morning lol

You can be a supervisor if your not qualified. this is as long as you are working to being qualified on either a level 2 or 3 basis at NVQ. I believe it to be the case that at least one member in the room has to be qualified. People who have no childcare qualifications often are not allowed to be left alone with the children. i'm not sure if this was just a rule at the 4 nurseries i have worked in or is standasrd practice. Yor boss obviously regards you highly and you must be doing a good job already to be offfered such a possition. Take it get qualified and enjoy. All the best for whatever you decide x
