hi all, I'm new!

Hi everyone i started using this forum as it was recommended to me for useful information as I am currently doing my Level 3 diploma in residential childcare although I also hold my CACHE NVQ and certificate in childcare and early years education (qualified July 2005). I have almost completed my diploma now but have found it hard as there are no resources for it yet due to it being a new qualification. I am also now starting my CWDC workbook which is what I am really stuck on! Just thought I'd say hi and if anyone who is just starting their diploma needs help I'm more than happy to share how I managed to get it done with so little resources available. Looking forward to being a part of this forum!!

Im new too!! im also new to starting my qualification and would appreciate any help at all, I am stuck on this question in unit 11 which is "explain how holistic plans support access to outdoor play for every child in the setting including those that mat have specific needs"
do not have a clue so any help would be great!! thank you in advance!

Hi a warm welcome to the site. Holistic plans are ones that take the whole child into consideration, not just single areas of learning and development.

Ask in your setting/workplace/placement to see how they plan for all the child to have access to the outside play areas eg. through a continuous planning approach, a daily routine, free-flow approach. Is the planning adapted so that children with specific needs go outside eg. aids to make sure children can take part - ramps, low level door handles, staff ratios


The level 3 early years educator handbook - on amazon.co.uk has good reading if you use the index and look for 'holistic'

my main sources of information for this unit and my safeguarding unit was:
the government document 'working together to safeguard children'

The NSPCC website

The safenetwork.org website

The Barnados website


I found if I was really stuck on a particular question I would google it and I found that questions on this unit and the safeguarding unit are pretty similar to questions on other qualifications for working with children and young people so sometimes I could use those answers as a reference.

Questions like 1.1 on unit 03 where is asks u to explain the roles and responsibilities of the practioner with regards to children or young people who have experienced abuse you can probably find the answer in your workplaces safeguarding policies and procedures or ask your manager what your role and responsibilities are in those circumstances.

And looking at my coursework I have also referenced question 2.2 to question 2.1 so I haven't actually written an answer out for it, the other question I cross referenced was 4.1 to the answer to question 3.1 so that was 2 questions I didn't write answers for within the whole unit. A lot of my answers are based on the work I do and as I work in a children's home for children with learning disabilities we are trained a lot on various communication methods due to some of the children being non-verbal. This is one of the only units where working in a specialised setting has been a help rather than a hurdle!!!
