I covered this in a direct observation... i explained how in my setting all the activities are at the children's eye level or with in reach. They can access them any time they want. Obviously activities with small parts are at eye level so younger children can not get them and maybe choke on a small piece. We do not have a set daily play our day is mostly free play were the child chooses what to play.
Hope this helps

Within your routines - you must show that you are flexible and 'go around' the children i.e. snack time, story time, circle time or going out to play etc

Do you rigidly have a 'timed' inflexible routine of saying this happens at 9.30am, this at 10am, then next at 10.20, outdoors at 10.45 am?

Or do you include flexibility in your routine i.e. the children are really enjoying their painting, rather than stop them midway, you decide to push back snack time by 15 minutes, by this time the activity is coming to a natural close/finish.

Outdoor play - you might see (and have seen on the weather forecast) that blizzards/heavy rain is on the way, you can see that the sky looks ominous, the children really love riding bicycles and football, so you decide to go out earlier that day. This shows you have routines/a morning plan - but it is not set in stone, it is flexible.

As those working with children know, even the best laid ideas don't go to plan and we allow for flexibility. If you don't, you may create a 'Sound of Music' culture where the Captain blows the whistle and the children all stand to attention - good job Maria came along to change things!
