Hi this is a quote from page 47 of the Childcare and Education level 3 handbook

Looked-after children

Children and young people who are in care of local authorities are described as 'looked-after children'. They are one of the most vulnerable groups in society. The main reason for children being under the care of their local authority is that they lack a stable, warm and consistent environment, and many will not have formed secure attachments.

This impacts on their emotional and social development, particularly developing trust in others, and also affects their ability to do well at school.

Page 97 & 100
go on to look at the importance of attachment between infant and parent/carer and as such raises awareness of the potential impact of not forming positive attachments.

Quote from page 103: Implications for emotional health and well-being if secure attachments are not experienced in the early years

Babies and children need to be able to trust others in order to feel emotionally secure. When there has been insecure or poor attachment (whether it is with their primary carer or parent, with adults in the setting or both) they may begin to show signs of insecurity through their behaviour. Babies and young children with poor attachments may show less interest in exploring their environment that those with secure attachment. They may also display anxiety and even depression later on in life, although it is difficult to predict the cause-and-effect relationship as there are many other influencing factors.

You can read these pages in the amazon.co.uk preview

Impact of secure attachments;
  • Protect against depression

There's good reading on the lower part of this page fosteringandadoption.rip.org.uk
