Identify the communcation development needs of children :

I did this question and my tutor said that I had 'identified characteristics of communication' Instead of:

Identify communication and development needs children from:
• Birth to 2 years
• 2 to 5 years
• 5 up to 8 years.

I now do not understand they question!
I wrote this :

Birth – 2 years
• Will smile and laugh when other people smile and laugh.
• Make sounds to themselves like cooing, gurgling and babbling.
• Look at you when you speak and when their name is called.
• Make noises point and look at you to get your attention.
• Start to understand a few simple words like ‘drink’ and ‘car’.
• Can follow simple instructions like ‘kick ball’ and ‘stop now’
• Use up to 20 simple words such as ‘cup’ ‘ daddy’ and ‘dog’

2- 5 Years
• Listen to and remembers simple stories with pictures.
• Understands simple ‘who’ what’ and ‘where’ questions.
• Starts to use simple plurals ‘books’ ‘shoes’ and ‘cars’.

5- 8 years
• Focus on one thing for much longer without being reminded.
• Rely less on pictures and objects to learn new words.
• Use their language skills in learning to read, write and spell.
• Learn that different words can mean the same things.
• Understand feeling and descriptive words like ‘slowly, carefully or clever’

any help would be great!!!!

Hi, stumbled across you post whilst looking for help myself lol, not sure if this is of any help to you but it might be worth a look to add to what you have already put but it only goes up to the age of 3
http://www.ehow.com/list_6375083_cha...velopment.html

also try typing in the question in a variety of ways into google, that way something may just pop up thats of use. I wish you well in the rest of your course

Hi, no panic :) characteristics can be detailed as a list, where the communicational needs for this development are better as an explanation.

Consider what might be happening if you were to observe these characteristics in action ..

Think about how children need interaction with their most significant person, other family members, care givers and friends. How they need time to play, rest, sleep and a daily routine that supports their safety, sense of security , belonging, care, health and well-being. Evaluate if activities that support a child's learning eg. to recognise their own name, the world around them and physical development are important?

You may find development matters guidance or a professional development handbook on amazon more useful xx

So this 'Children will also start to talk at this age so the use of language and tone of voice is important so then children will learn a few words to help them communicate. The use of short sentences are also important as children will not understand ‘don’t run inside’ but if you say ‘running finished’ then children will understand. Is more what I need to put instead of the bullet points? x
