Birth – 2 years
• Will smile and laugh when other people smile and laugh.
• Make sounds to themselves like cooing, gurgling and babbling.
• Look at you when you speak and when their name is called.
• Make noises point and look at you to get your attention.
• Start to understand a few simple words like ‘drink’ and ‘car’.
• Can follow simple instructions like ‘kick ball’ and ‘stop now’
• Use up to 20 simple words such as ‘cup’ ‘ daddy’ and ‘dog’
Think about how children need interaction with their most significant person, other family members, care givers and friends. How they need time to play, rest, sleep and a daily routine that supports their safety, sense of security , belonging, care, health and well-being. Evaluate if activities that support a child's learning eg. to recognise their own name, the world around them and physical development are important?
