Page 163 explains -
we know that children develop at different rates, but it is important to see whether children are making progress.
Children's progress must be compared to the age/stage milestones or the expectations of the early years curriculum. Most early yeasrs settings have soome type of tracking system in place, often using computer software to help them (many different software systemss are available). The advantage of these electronic systems is that parents can often log into them as well. They can look at photographs or film clips of their children, and also see what this means for their development.
The book suggests asking your setting about the way it tracks their children's development - if it uses tracking software, how that works and if groups of children are tracked as well as individuals.
