Children need to learn to express their feelings, need to be challenged and test their abilities in order to develop a sense of agency. Agency gives them control over their life and independently setting their own challenges. Children may be encouraged to participate in certain activities if they see their friends already participating in the activities. This achievement will give the child a great sense of satisfaction and enable a great proudness in their unknown abilities, from this they learn that they are responsible for what they can achieve. We as the adults can help the children to challenge themselves and to test out their own abilities through all the different activities that we plan for them. We need to provide as many opportunities for the children to try out new things and to challenge them. By participating in challenging activities and testing out their abilities can greatly boost a child’s confidence and give them a high self esteem about themselves. An example would be if a child tries out an activity or a skill that they did not think they would be able to do and achieve it, will boost their self esteem and help build their confidence. It will also encourage them to challenge themselves and take risks in the future.
This self esteem and confidence will then encourage them to try out new things and will cause the child to have higher faith and trust in themselves and their capabilities.
