does this help?

• Puppets & cuddly toys- can be used to motivate a child to talk or vocalise. Puppets with mouths can be used to encourage a child to make specific movements.

• Role play & dressing up- children from the age of 3 upwards tend to enjoy imaginary play. Adults can take on roles & play alongside them.

• Nursery rhymes, songs & musical instruments- can help children to listen and take turns, but also sing & communicate. Some nursery rhymes can help children to practice particular speech sounds.

• Books- can help increase vocabularly and can help children to learn the meanings of words. Some books can help children to participate, for example abook that makes musical sounds when a picture is pressed. Books can also be made specificallly to meet a child’s interests ans so encourage the child to point or vocalise.

• Blowing bubbles & other activities- this is an example of an activity that might be used to encouage children to point or show interest in what they are seeing. Sometimes children will be encouarged to blow bubbles in order to make a specific sound.
