You've opened the flood gates now .. lol

From a perspective of having worked in a preschool & then moving into Business by building & running Silkysteps …

All working relationships should be about communication, the ability to listen and to maintain a quiet respect for everyone .. regardless.

We will all have acquaintances throughout our lives where the relationship only briefly touches the surface of each person, when you work with someone .. opinions, points of view and personalities play a huge role in how you’ll initially get on together.

Tolerance, patience & understanding are key elements.

Recognising different people skills is a vital part of each of us .. whether you’re a front line worker or senior management .. we each have the opportunity to build a network of colleagues that respect our work ethics and have no concerns about our approachability .

Moving relationships forwards is the tough one as you need to of built a rapport with someone before asking them to do anything that will challenge the status quo .. managers may expect a rocky time if they make a mistake in thinking that by taking control of an established cross section of people they can expect them to change working practices in order to boost the 'mechanical standing & status of the company.

When it comes to upper management and other organisations, internal & external if their eyes are only on output & profit margins they run the risk of alienating their only asset .. their workforce this applies to any group of people working together no matter how many !

In Preschool .. the management team aka leaders, staff, committee, parents, children, onlookers and associates .. should all have an equal opportunity in expressing & suggesting their views and ideas ..

Businessballs.com is a site dedicated to ethical business relationships and gives great examples of how to encourage the best productivity in groups of people

This is a big personal thing for me in general, so if I can help out .. shout

Going by the PDF from CWDcouncil the first 2 are these ..
Hmm, although the pdf is dated 2004 .. has the information/content changed ?

338K01 The benefits of developing productive working relationships with colleagues
  • Everyone gets on & the children, staff & parents see a positive working environment.
  • You feel you can approach people and they (hopefully) feel the same about you.
  • Information can be discovered more quickly if you can ask!
  • Trust is built, respect is gained.
  • Problems & differences can be resolved quickly and efficiently.
  • You can ask for someone else to get the next round of drinks in ... without wondering if they'll be poured over your head lol
  • Events/jobs can be organised more effectively if the network of communication has already begun/been established.
338K02 Principles of effective communication and how to apply them in order to communicate effectively with colleagues

Principles on this webpage are good - Principles of Communication

Applying them could involve ..
  • Staff meetings .. venue to be arranged of course
  • Time & space given to allow communication - during work .. before & after .. letting people know when you can't be available is also an effective way to manage & be in control of your own time.
  • Newsletters to inform, advertise and to build external communications - with business, community as well as parents.
  • Feedback, surveys & suggestion boxes
  • Action & followups !! we all like to hear how things worked out .. curiosity & being able to congratulate/commiserate is pretty important & can be very cool
I have to say I've not studied for this unit or anything so if there are any assessors here or people who've completed the unit & this is way off track .. please help ...

Hth .. let us know what else you discover or if this isn't what you needed
