Identify sources of current guidance for planning healthy and safe environments and services.

Guidance is not law and is not compulsory, however there are many different sources of guidance that settings can use in order to plan a healthy and safe environment.

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) – Relates to all different types of work related issues and they cover all aspects of health and safety in different environments such as accidents, hazardous substances, ill health, risk assessments, protective equipment, welfare facilities, first aid and occupational health. The main aim through the guidance of the HSE, whatever environment or industry, is:
* To help people understand the health and safety at work act
* To help people comply with the law
* To give advice

Department for Education (DfE) – The DfE believes that all children should be able to experience a wide range of activities. Health and safety measures should help them to do this safely, not stop them. The DfE state that it is important that children learn to understand and manage the risks that are a normal part of life. The DfE can give guidance on training, the law, local authority powers and duties as an employer or employee.
Trading Standards – give advice on consumer safety.
The Police – give advice on crime prevention, security of premises and road safety.
Transportation Department – give advice and guidance on safety of structures, waste regulation, safety of highways and road safety training.
Fire Officer – advice and guidance on fire regulations regarding the premises, fire exits, fire extinguishers and general fire safety matters.
Child Accident Prevention Trust – reducing the number of children and young people killed, disabled or seriously injured in accidents.
St Johns Ambulance – training/guidance on first aid and health and safety, gives first aid and health and safety supplies.

Hope this helps.
