I don't think you're missing anything at all .. lots of people don't like the thought of introducing halloween because of it scaring the children, it depends very much on how it's presented .. disspelling fear by allowing the children to access these sorts of resources can be extremely beneficial in building their natural resistance & responses to situations of fear.

As with fact & fiction it's good to be able to draw lines on what's what & where.. talking about things that scare us gives us the confidence to say no and the courage to turn & walk away.

No part of halloween should be used to seriously scare children or adults and every group will plan for their own personal situation .. pick up on the lighthearted element of the day & it can be great fun
