Hi, a very warm welcome to the site. If you have this EYE handbook by Penny Tassoni you'll need page 336 to look at Susan Harter's model of self-esteem.

Quote:
Susan Harter, a psychologist, provided a model of self-esteem which has been widely accepted. Her model of self-esteem suggests that high or low leels of self-esteem are a result of how closely our self-concept matches our 'ideal self'. The ideal self is what we want to be like and this of course is very individual and will depend on what we and soiciety values. Someone living in a place where money is valued is likely to have an ideal self that includes being rich. If someone wants desperately to be rich, but does not acheive this, the chances are that they arfe more likely to have a lower self-esteem because they have not measured up to their 'ideal'. While the ideal self is not developeduntil later childhood, it is helpful to develop a strong and positive self-concept.

Hope this helps xx
