Book Review Neighbours: Wilbie finds a friend explores ball play, kindness & expectations

A cute story book to look at neighbours, their generosity, compassion, small gardens, saying thanks, low fencing and ball play ..

This is also a nice title to utilise where needed to invite interest from boys or children with a reluctance to engage with book content.

Wilbie finds a friend by Sally Chambers

Blurb:
It was the beginning of the holidays and Wilbie was very excited.
He was going to play football.
He was going to play it all the time.

Wilbie loves football, but there is only one problem - his garden is small and he's always kicking the ball over the fence into the neighbour's garden. Luckily the ball is always returned.

But then one day it doesn't come back.

Wilbie has to go next door to get his ball and finds a friend where he least expects...

----------------------

Wilbie feels that older people are boring doing little more than sitting and talking. This opinion provides a great opportunity to discuss age, discrimination and to promote equality and diversity. To Wilbie's surprise he discovers his neighbour Mr Appleby is far from boring, he's been a football fan for many years and has collected many items of memorabilia that he's delighted to share with Wilbie and Harry.

The storyline opens discussion for politeness, saying thanks for kindness, playing ball in small spaces and the expectation of having things returned without explanation.

A nice read :)
