Yes, everyone is being encouraged to 'upskill' and whilst I am lucky enough to have another EYP (as well as myself) in the setting, I personally have always preferred my staff (when first coming into the sector) to attend lots of courses, workshops, meetings and in-house training before doing NVQ's. They (and me) have found that they are much more confident and knowledgeable by not rushing in.

That said, you are already in 'the thick of it' so I hope your colleagues are supporting and helping you - especially your colleague doing a Foundation degree who should be sharing her knowledge with you. And of course there are forums such as Silksteps who are very helpful for when your colleagues aren't around and you are doing your work in the wee small hours!
