Thank you Coral Reefs

There are many different varieties of corals in our oceans - their survival is as tenuous as all our exploited natural resources.

However great lengths are being achieved to try and protect and build reefs for the furture.

In Whitsand Bay, Cornwall 2004 ~ The decommissioned Royal Navy warship HMS Scylla was sunk to create a new Artificial reef - organised by ARC - the Artificial Reef Consortium ~ you can read more about the SINKING HERE from the BBC.

Coral Activities
  • Use photographs of natural coral and good plastic replicas for the children to look at and explore in their water role play.
  • If you get chance to visit a local marine centre ~ show your children what sort of corals they can find in there.
  • Collage a branch coral picture with crunchy materials - crushed sugar cubes would be good.
