Attachment Theory....
 

Hi all,

I just wanted a bit of feedback and help, I'm doing my theorists essay but i'm really struggling with the strengths of John Bowlby's attachment theory! :banghead:
So far I've got that children who have been neglected by the primary caregiver show difficulty in forming attachments and relationships, medical research proves that babies in the womb hear and recognise their mother's voice and bonds are formed immediately after giving birth, and children who come from "nuclear" families show more self confidence in stressful stiuations.

Am I on the right lines with these and has anyone got any other ideas? I've had no trouble with the weaknesses part but the strengths is proving more difficult for some reason!

Hi, sounds great. Other leads could be object_relations_theory and how John Bowlby looked at this to formulate the nature of his attachment theory. Great episode we caught before the school run the other day - Timmy time on BBC's iPlayer - Timmy brings a smile & Apricot's blanket

Maybe also look at monotropy.

How the ability to self disclose is possible through positive early attachments - google search for leads and developing an awareness to identify destructive, non destructive relationships, dependancy & independance.

John Bolwby & James Roberston's film A two year old goes to hospital was involved in hospitals review of visitation rights - recognising the importance of separation anxiety.

Google search for a transcript & synopsis & a report on parental visiting of children with burns from 1962

Where it goes as a strength in the future I'm not sure, maybe conversely it will be in challenging the existing/ance of england's current keyperson system

Well, 8 hours later and I'm still slogging away with Unit 403! thanks so much for that help Ruthierhyme, i'll be able to bulk it out a bit more now! This is the first time i've really hit a wall with the Level 4... and judging by other threads on this forum it;s been a toughie for other people too!

Its definatly a toughie... i have just spent 2/3 weeks researching it and still not sure its good enough but am going to type it up and give it to my assessor on tuesady - she can tell me where the gaps are as my brain has done shut down and said in a wee squeeky voice " please no more theorys " lol

I got it back and it was completed and fine - which was a surprise to me but I'm glad i never have to look at it again, haha!!

can any1 tell me how bowlbys theory of development influences current practice?? what do we do in school that uses bowlbys theory??
