Booktime is about families reading together for pleasure and fun and the Booktime programme, which gives a free book gift for every child of 4/5 joining Reception class, continues this autumn. Schools do not need to register – their local authority and library services will provide the information needed to co-ordinate delivery of the book packs and associated resources.A letter to schools (www.teachernet.gov.uk/docbank/index.cfm?id=13581) from Booktrust, the charity managing Booktime, provides early information about Booktime to give schools time to plan for any linked activities they may wish to hold. Schools can use the book gift to engage with parents and carers and to join with local libraries for events.
