Giving children and young people a right to appeal
 
In line with the Government's commitment to give young people more say in processes and decisions that affect them, on 28 April 2009 the Department launched an e-consultation to seek views on giving young people and children the individual right to appeal against permanent exclusions, Special Educational Needs statements and assessments, and to make disability discrimination claims. The consultation will explore the possible age and competency measures for such rights. The consultation will also seek views on support needed to undertake appeals and also appeals by young people from age 16 on school admissions. The consultation closes on 21 July 2009.
