I didn't do 405 but have you tried looking at the EYFS. If you look on line there's loads of information and how it links into the EYFS. Let me know how you get on

I know it may sound mad, but if you break it down, change it into language you feel happier with, then look at the question again, it won't seem so daunting and you'll probably realise you know a lot more than you think you do.

key messages from established theory - i.e. Piaget - his theory on stages of development , schema...

Bowlby- his attachment theory

Marget McMillan - Outdoor learning ( as well as lots of other things)

and others you may wish to look at


Established and Emerging theories:

We are constantly learning/proving/disproving/adding adapting theories etc - afterall society and humans evolve/change and what may be have been valid once may not be valid now - or is it?

Piaget - schema - this has been looked at by Chris Athey, Cathy Nut-Brown.
Do you think we have gone with Piaget's theory?
Is it as valid for the children today as it was then?
Can you see it in your practice today?

Bowlby - attachment theory - has this theory had an impact on how we help children settle in/transitions etc?
Can you link this to further/adapted/added theory - look at Bronfenbrenner's theory and see if you can link the two theories to children. See the link below:

McMillan - she was interested in the care and education of children and back then living conditions were not as they were and mortality rates and children did not always make it until adulthood. She advocated fresh air and set up outdoor classes.
Does this link in with what we provide for children in the EYFS curriculum - outdoor play and we even have Forest schools.

Today we are also learning more about the brain, and development of infants and children. We are taking the valued theories and study theorists of the past have developed and adding it to today's studies along with our own learning.

We also see our society is changing - many more mothers go out to work, many more children are in nurseries/pre-school for most of their younger years.
How are we ensuring these children are being loved, cared for and educated?
Are we giving the best to young vulnerable and dependent children?
How are we helping children with transitions? - home/childminder/nursery/childminder/grandparents/home?
nursery to school? from one home to another - often alternate weekends(when parents remarry) Look at Bronfenbrenner above.

Whatever theories/theorists you study or choose to use, try and link it in with current practice and give an example from your work setting. You may implement something from theories into your planning and everyday practise.
