K4D920

K4D920) The importance of involving children in the assessment and development of their own communication, language and literacy, according to their age, needs and abilities, and how this can be done. Has anyone already written about this, what did you put in and how much did you write. any ideas on what to put in.

It is important children are involved with their communication assessments so they know how they are doing and areas they may need more support in. Children need to feel valued and supported. Children need to know we are interested in them and their learning. (play)
This can be done by
o Observation of the child- taking account their own agenda
o Talk to child about how they think they are doing –did they enjoy certain activity- Why?
o Use children’s own drawings and allow them to discuss what they did and why- what else could they do
o Promote independence in the setting by organising resources for independent choice and decision making,
o Use thumbs up /thumbs down for easy or difficult
o Helping children adapt activities to meet their ability.
o Praise and encouragement
Pupils are involved in self-assessment when they look at their own work in a reflective way and identify aspects that are good and others which need to be improved.
We use high quality interactions based on thoughtful questioning, careful listening to the child and reflective responses.
Our children reflect on their own learning by sharing what they have done with adults and peers.
