Im really trying to get back on track - I 've had a few weeks where I havent done as much as I would of liked ( been a bit busy opening the new setting) and now really need to get myself going again!!
Im working on 428 health and safety and again the questions seem so repetative - I want to shout come and see me work and you'll see all I do!!
But no my assessor is due here at home on Wed and will want to see pages and pages of typed out written work - not what I expected when I started this nvq!
Anyway I could do with some ideas on;

The importance of setting a good example to others in relation to health and safety

Sources of specialist health and safety expertise used in your area of responsibility

I know what you mean! I'm on level 3, but recently done a professional discussion on Health and safety. Here's some of the points I covered. Don't know if it's what you're looking for :cheerful:

Show copy of setting health & safety

Setting is checked each morning (risk assessment)
H&S policies kept at main entrance for parents & visitors to read.
H&S reviewed regularly to make sure they are up to date.
Always at least 2 adults in rooms with children
I always follow procedures and stick to ratios i.e. only 8 children to 1 adult outside for over 3’s and 4 children to 1 for under 3’s.

Regularly check toys and equipment for breakage and damage
Annual inspections take place around premises to ensure safety
Regular inspection done by manager
No wires are allowed to trail, must be secured. All plug sockets covered
We must not stand on chairs, climb ladders etc
Taking care when lifting heavy items
No hot drinks to be taken into rooms where children are
Doors are locked or secured around the premises, fire exits are unlocked but closed
Must wear gloves when changing nappies, soiled clothing or any bodily fluids
Gloves worn when serving snack
General cleanliness should be maintained throughout
Kitchen area cleaned regularly (inc fridge), especially where food is prepared.
Rubbish disposed appropriately, general waste in black bags, recycling in proper bags, nappies etc in outside bins.
All chemical and toxic substances kept out of reach of children and handled safely
Spillages on floor to be washed with soapy water and disinfectant.
Antibacterial wipes used for changing mats
Antibacterial hand wash used at snack time
Children are asked to wash hands after bathroom trips
Regular fire drills take place to familiarise staff and children with fire exits and assembly points.
Alarm sounded if fire is real and building evacuated
All visitors must sign in/out of setting
Children are made aware of risks so they can help keep safe i.e. handling scissors, using equipment etc.
Regularly explain to children right & wrong (especially during circle times) how their actions can hurt others
Explain safety to them during outings


Always follow procedures for accidents, emergencies & illness

I've just started the NVQ4 but its now all computer based - no paper work at all, which makes life so much easier. i'm finding it so much better from when I did the level 3.
