Describe the techniques of observation for different purposes, strenghts and weaknesses

Write about the different types of observations used in your setting and why you use them, what are the good and bad points. ie a tick list on physical development would record a childs development in that area only so it would be no good for language development.

hi, can anyone please help me with different techniques of observations

can i ask how on earth you can in anyway be doing a level 4 in ccld if you have no idea what observation techniques and their uses?????? dear god that is basic level 2!! how on earth can you possibly meet any of the criteria of a level 4 if you dont know what my level 2s know after their first term and how do you manage a team???? observation is the very heart of good practice i am flabberghasted.

this person will be qualified to manage a setting! control how people work and the wellbeing of children and she doesn't know how to observe!!! not harsh enough.:muted: the college or training provider should be shot for their selection techniques and she should go back 2 steps and learn the basics. The children should be our concern.

should point out she has changed her post and removed the bit where she says she has no clue what they are and why we do them!

what sort of setting do you work in??? I have fellow student in my class who works in a school and she says all the teachers do the observations and not the helpers.....I covered all types of observations in my level 2 and in more depth in the level 3..... you should be doing observations day, do you have key children? do you fill out learning journals? have you ever assessed a child to see how they play? what areas of the setting they use? who they speak to? perhaps you do but don't realise the different types of observations high light certain area's of the childrens behaviour and development.

Yeah i understand that but i think there could have been a nicer way to word it. This forum is supposed to be used to help each other not knock each others self esteem. i didn't mean to offend anyone

its frustration! people should be working at the level they wish to get the recognition for NVQs esp workplace based ones are not for learning how to do something, i am so sick of people getting a piece of paper for which others work damn hard and have a huge amount of knowledge. some providers need striking off the system and pretty quick. trouble is with the nvq4 going on august the 1st everyone is scrambling to enrol to wring the last money out of LAs, its shameful these people could be looking after my kids with no knowledge, thats my measure.

Its not the students or the training providers. It comes from higher the race for more and more pieces of paper/shorter and shorter timescales - placed upon everyone. Funders, Cdwc and awarding bodies also need to be accountable here.

Very much understand your frustration but agree please do not blast the students looking for help. Also some of the advisory teachers do not understand observation techniques and settings are not receiving good advice.
