can someone help im trying to found info about Tom Peter or Peters re reflective practice.Looked at LOADS of books but nothing :hissyfit:

Who is Tom Peters? :dizzy: Went and searched just now and there are a few pages on him, even tompeters.com.:wide-eyed Wasn't sure if he was who you're asking for though as it looks like he's a business consultant!
I could be totally wrong! :blush:

Tom peter/peters wrote a piece on reflective practice ,we spoke about him in college but cant find a thing the title is Thrives in chaos

Yes i agree and what the point in buying all these books when he is NOT mentioned in ANY of them !!!!

lol, I may be wrong but I have a feeling the Tom Peters in question may be the business management consultant.

His book Thriving in Chaos was published in 1987 - Wikipedia article.

This page summarises the book - Thriving on Chaos - if it helps, as you read link it to 'our world and Preschool - Customers / Parents who pay the fees, Government grant which allows us to work within the state sector, in 'partnership & in return for compliance to standards. Children are also customers but not fee paying, as such .. they experience the goods provided, the Groups philosophy of provision, activities, duration and enthusiasm of presentation .. Tom considers core elements of business that remain unchangeable and recommends removing the parts that overly complicate matters !

Markets - local competition for places, Sales & securing your registered number of children, Turn over of places and ensuring incoming money matches pay & running costs - security of job - Advertising and reaching parents / carers that can use, access and pass on recommendations of the setting ..

not a great analogy sorry, but hope it helps a little ..

Lean thinking & Simplicity are other processes that reflect/incorporate this idea ..

Another good follow on from this is Ricardo Semler's business model: Semco in Brazil you tube interview .. it's a pretty stunning concept for company structure .. and schools :D

Lean thinking, simplicity and many of the other operational procedure models in business are about reflecting on practice to see what is/might be wasteful and what can/could be considered productive. Once set routines have been identified they can be looked at to see how well they work & if there might be a better way of doing things.

An example could be where visitor sign in books / registers are kept - does accessing them repeatedly disrupt/interupt anything, are they awkward to get to or time consuming in 'too-ing & fro-ing' ... on reflection is there a better way or place to keep them - what are the benefits - Positive and negative to everyone and are the potential changes welcomed?

These ideas are great to combine with risk assessment as it can help spot dangers, help correct - possibly improve them and still make sure the groups main working ethics & focus remain the same ..
