Treasure hunt assessment ?
 

I've just recieved an email asking this question ..

next assessment is a treasure hunt, age of children 4, 2,and 12mths with little or no reading skills. Anyone any ideas how i can achieve this.

I've never heard of a treasure hunt with children so young. I don't work with children that young but don't they have the perception that if they can't see something it doesn't exist? Am probably on the wrong train of thought it's been many years since doing the theory bit of NVQ.
How about photos of the objects the children need to find. Or have 2 objects the same give 1 to the child and hide the other 1. Children wouldn't be able to move far so how about hiding the objects in a variety of places within reach, easy open boxes, under cushion, in your hand etc.

tendency is to think of the written clues to find an item , but treasure can be found just by searching for items in sand or shredded paper for them to find.. use an item which makes a sound to encourage them to look, need only be one or two items, increase items for older children then older ones could then sort (into colours) or count the items, or you could give picture clues on where to find them. thing is to differentiate between the ages, start simple and then adapt for each age range.

Thanks for prompt reply Guys, just had practice run using "night garden" picture cards, all the children recognize night garden characters.I hid a card and gave each child the same card to find, younger child i also gave a picture of where i had hidden the card, eg, a picture of a sofa. Great fun was had by all, Feel confident and ready for next assessment.:thumbsup::

Can you tie it in with Easter? Have pictures of eggs, bunnies, ducks etc laminated, on short pieces of ribbon and tied to low branches / hidden behind logs etc in the garden...

The 4 and 2 year old might well understand clues such as 'hot' and 'cold' whereas the baby would need taking to a 'prize' by an older one or you
