TDA 3.20 2.1 Explain the particular behaviour, emotional and social development needs of children in the setting

Hi,

I'm having a complete mental block.

Question is: Explain the particular behaviour, emotional and social development needs of the children and young people in the setting.

We have a lot of children with BES needs, do I need to be explaining each child's needs? ie, autistic and needs help with social skills and engaging in activities; struggles to control anger and needs support to self regulate and devise strategies?

Or is this asking what the school has in place for those children with besd
1:1 support, circle of friends, SEAL groups?

I'm confused because the textbook references a behaviour policy, which I know benefits all pupils to know boundaries and provide consistency.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, 1:1, support, circle of friends, SEAL groups are all something you can use throughout the other criteria.

The TDA 3.20 unit pdf states:

Children and young people with behaviour, emotional and social development needs include those:
  • who experience emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • who are withdrawn or isolated or display school phobic reactions
  • who are disruptive and disturbing, hyperactive and lack concentration
  • with immature social skills or personality disorders
  • presenting challenging behaviours which may arise from other complex needs
The qualification relates directly to your working practice so if there are a large number of children with BES needs it would be good to use their individual support plans when explaining the spectrum of needs that you're involved with and expected to meet.

Page 278 of the STL level 3 handbook looks at this in greater depth

Hth, best wishes

Thank you, it always helps to have someone else's view or perspective.
