From the NVQ level 4 book - link is to amazon.co.uk
Stakeholders can be both internal and external and are those who have an interest in the performance of the setting. Colleagues are internal stakeholders. External stakeholders include families and shareholders, or those who pay for the service that you provide.
Key Term
Stakeholder - a party with an interest in an organisation eg. employees, customers, suppliers or the local community.

Looking at why a potential stakeholder might be interested in the success, stagnation or failure of a/your service is the essence of why individual stakeholders are important eg. employees rely on a job for income, career satisfaction, to make a contribution, be part of an environment they find safe and stimulating. Local Authorities have a duty to safeguard those in their area, plan improvements for all and answer govermental questions about what's happening in their locality.
