unit 068 - question 2.2

hi i was wondering if what put below was on the right track for the question ive started struggling with this unit and would be gratefull if someone could point me in the right direction.

Q: Explain the ways that you as a practitioner can support and extend children’s speech, language and communication development.

A: As a childcare practitioner I support and extend children’s speech, language and communication through group or one to one discussions for example I have flash words that the children use to get their speech abit more fluent as well as using books that influences their language and after they have read the book we discuss what happened and this helps influence communication, another way I like to help extend SLC is through games for example peppa pig on the Nintendo wii, why the child is playing I will ask what colour is that or do you no what you are doing, can you explain to me what you have to do because while a child is playing a game they are having fun and learning which they benefit from. Everyday throughout my setting I am asking questions like ‘would you like juice, water or milk’ because I feel this question a child has to decide what they would like and respond in the appropriate way for example milk please, this helps them with communication and they have also used the appropriate language as well.

How about making time to talk to the children keeping eye contact and letting them know you are interested in what they are saying not moving around while talking to them: this gives them confidence to talk to adults and builds up their self esteem asking questions where they cant just answer yes or no but makes them think
