Hi, assess means to weigh up, estimate and make a professional judgement

In the CYPOP 4 unit on OCR.org.uk it offers that

Movement skills may include:
travelling movements;
where the child moves from one point to another such as running, jumping, skipping
object control, such as throwing, catching and dribbling, which involve objects being sent, received, travelled with
balance and co-ordination

This learning also highlights inclusion and how a setting may adapt the support given to groups of children and individuals depending on age and need.

All Children may include:
 girls and boys
 disabled children
 children with specific/additional needs
 children of different ages including babies
  • Do you make observations whilst children are engaged in physical activity and see how those not engaged might be invited to do so.
  • Do you find specific activities attract more boys, girls, older or younger children.
  • DO you ask children about their taking part and what they enjoy about it.
  • Do you share this information with parents and appropriate colleagues.
  • Do you ask parents for/about information on their child/children's development.
  • Do you ask for feedback on the type of activities you plan for children so that they can be supported in their interests at home and in the setting.
  • Do you speak with colleagues to plan and share ideas on the variety of activities offered in the setting - where things are put, who can access them, what happens if you moved resources to other places ..
  • What does adult deployment look like in your setting? is everyone in one area of the rooom, are you requested to supervise lone activities, are you able to offer support, a steadying hand, smile and positive words so that children feel confident to try new things, take risks on resources that enable them to progress - use a climbing frames rungs as well as a solid ladder/stepping boards.
Hth, best wishes
