William - a book celebrating children's days ..

William

Book Description

William is a BOY – but he’s not just a boy. He is a part of something bigger – a family that loves him for being who he is, and a world full of boys who are just like him! He is adventurous ALWAYS, mischievous SOMETIMES, and far from action NEVER!!! And yet he is loved all the more for his ‘boyishness’ – every tree he climbs, every stone he finds, every Superhero he becomes! In fact, OFTEN William is so busy, doing what boys do, he even forgets to eat! But whether he’s counting bugs or saving the world William knows that he is loved 100%, especially by his mum. He goes to sleep happy - looking forward to making his dreams a reality tomorrow…
William is a quirky, vibrant and charming illustrated children’s book that celebrates the universal truth of boys being boys. This book promotes the unique qualities that boys share, but are so often underrated. William is the perfect way to inspire reading in boys from a young age, to capture their imagination and to boost their sense of self-esteem and belonging.

About the Author
Claire Harrison has always loved to write – as an Arts student, as a Technical Author and now as an author for children. When her little boy William was 3 she had an idea! She wanted to write a book that celebrated boys. When Claire found out her own son now 10 had Asperger’s syndrome, she was even more determined to celebrate his similarities to other boys. She lives in London with her children Joy, Honor and William and her husband Carl.

About the Illustrator
Felicity McElroy is a Graphic Designer and mother of three. She and Claire studied art and art history together and have been friends for thirty years. William is the result of their joining forces.

i wonder why she chose to portray him as a monkey? seems to reinforce the negative strereotypes whilst the story is good i wonder if people will just remember hes a little monkey? will have to try it out but a good chance lost i think.

I reluctantly agree, if the dedication's linked it's a tribute to the design/illustrator's own children, so yes a missed opportunity. Even as a favourite animal it would have an impact. I've a copy though and do feel the content's outweighed this and a couple of other niggles, far less adjustments needed than seems to be the norm.
