Activities for feelings emotions moods expressions face

Hi, my apologies first, there are some amazon affiliated links to resource ideas in this reply.. hope they all help

Good activities for focus play
  • Puffer fish faces & mirrors - bath crayons are good for drawing on & washing off mirrored surfaces.
  • Make a smile: place a finger at the corner points of your mouth and make a smile, saddness .. funny face - over a table with time to spare or during another activity is really good.
  • Happy hands/feet - painting, dressing up or sock puppets - more for general themed play.
  • Playdough faces - there's a face outline on site that you can print to skin toned paper, laminate & model dough on - for professionalism & legitamacy use alongside a copyright credited emotions poster, Frank Schaffer has a really nice one featuring mixed cultures - How do you feel today.
  • Tasting games - fruit, veg & breads = smiley face for good, sad face for not good aka yuk :D
  • Balloon faces - if the children like balloons - cut paper shapes and sticky pads to secure in place.
  • Bean bag catch - draw faces on the bags/balls and once caught/held the receiver can try to match the expression/emotion/feeling.
  • What makes you laugh - giggles, tickles, nose picking, bottom pumps :wide-eyed - good for diary chats - stickers from amazon
  • Cookies/small cakes and icing tubes - squeeze lines for smiles ..
  • Peek a boo/hand covering expressions - copy games.
  • Emotions lotto, memory game.
  • Animals - temperaments, feelings and reasons for reaction.
Do carrot peels make a rabbit happy, walks for dog ..
  • Mr Potato head or equivalent - Amazon link

  • For ICT do you have any software that allows you to build a face/emotion? - A thomas the tank engine emotions game from Hit entertainment.
  • 'How are you feeling' display board: low level register on a door maybe - there is a good faces pdf - ourselves on Under5s or make/laminate your own emoticons to let your children state how their day is or has been.
  • More activity ideas in this forum
Some good book titles are Guess how much I love you, selfish crocodile, Laura's star looks at lost, sad & happy. There are some all about me titles on this page of silkysteps & an affiliated search for 'Grumpy on Amazon if it helps. 'What are you so grumpy about'? looks good lol

If you enjoy having an on going theme for feelings & emotions, or use a planning book/themed activity collection to link the Children's interest/s to you could look at each individually, as and when - Smile, smiling, happy, frown, growl, angry, cross, sad, cry ..

Hth, let us know how it goes
xx
