We are moving premises and need ideas for activities to link

Hi, Our Pre-School are currently moving to a brand new premises in time for September and we wanted to use that as our theme for the first few weeks. We have decided to have a cardboard house, with carpet tiles for them to lay and wallpaper and roof tiles to stick and paint and materials to make curtains etc but thought Id ask you all if any of you had any further ideas for activities that we could introduce.
We have diggers and construction workers dressing up etc but any new ideas would be gratefully welcomed!
Cheers everyone

This can go anywhere and as you say, we've probably all done many of the same things! Why not go around your activities/areas or learning and see what you can all think of i.e. craft table - making houses with boxes, glue, selloptape, paint. We did this and some stuck windows on where they had drawn themselves and family members in windows, some (with help) cut our windows & doors. Then onto the mark making table, sand - you can buy brick making sets, but your sand will need to be damp to form the bricks; story time - Three Little Pigs + 100's of other stories, then onto to your next area of learning and so on.

Also we (staff and children) all brought photographs of their homes for setting/home involvement. I wrote to parents and explained we were not interested in who lived in a mansion or shed, but for how the children could compare things which are similar, the same or very different.

They were allowed to photograph any part of their home inside and/or out and also what they wanted to show. We had some lovely photographs and lots to talk about (one lived on a boat, flats, houses and one parent decided to bring a photograph of their holiday 'home' - a tent) and we displayed them all. All the children were very proud of their homes. Some of the staff brought in photographs of previous homes and from other countries they had lived in. This opened up endless possibilities and we continued the children's interest into homes around the world.

I hope this helps.

Great theme for the transition

How about estate agent role play: for sale & sold signs
Clipboard resources: plain paper for free mark making & printouts for observational numeracy - 1 preschool, 2 doors, 4 curtains, 3 bowls ..
Dolls and bears house, garage + cloth & polish for cars to go in a new showroom ..
Removal companies: lorries, tail lifts, ramps, forklifts and packaging - good for hide & find activities.

Moving books from amazon - affiliated link

Welcome to our new setting greetings cards, registration board/system - possibly involving photos of specific areas/activities in & outside of the setting - new storage rack system that children use to access resources, outdoor sand, outdoor easels or chalk boards ..
