CYPW 3.2 - 3.1 explain the features of an environment or service that promotes development

Hi there - I have to "explain the features of an environment or service that promotes the development of children and young people". Can anyone tell me what this actually means???
Am I supposed to describe the resources that we have that would promote/encourage development and learning?? Or have I missed the point completely?

Be really grateful if someone can point me in the right direction !

features is far more than resources this is all the things covered by the enabling environment of the eyfs. also research elizabeth jarman and enabling environments. places to talk, places to listen and think.

Thank you tutu - you've given me a direction to go in and that's all I needed to get going again.
Finding some of the questions really vague and as I'm not on a college course I don't have other students to discuss this with. Silkysteps and the people on it are lifesavers!

Hi, a warm welcome to silkysteps.

The features listed in the CYP3.2 unit are:

3.1. Features of an environment or service e.g.
• Stimulating and attractive
• Well planned and organised
• Personalised and inclusive
• Encouraging and practising participation
• High quality policies in place and followed
• Regulatory requirements met
• Varied
• Meeting individual and group needs
• Providing appropriate risk and challenge
• Involving parents and carers where appropriate to setting or service

As each setting is quite unique in what it offers as a service - through its layout, rooms, inside/outside, resources and the group's own aspirations the 'explain part will also be unique to you.

As recommended research what Elizabeth Jarman's communication friendly spaces concept involves, USA's highscope.org's environments for learning page and this page on Islington.gov.uk's KateGreenaway provision

CYPW PDFs are available at the bottom of this archived page of CWDC
