and from page 46 of this EYE handbook on amazon.o.uk (search inside for the word sudden) quote: Sudden infant death syndrome which is commonly know as 'cot death', occurs when babies die in their sleep without any warning. While the cases of sudden infant death syndrome are not fully understood, there are some steps parents and early years settings can take to reduce the risk of it occurring. It is now good practice to make sure that, when babies are put down to sleep, the following measures are taken:
