Any diagram of the correct way to lift anything or anyone should do. It should show the correct way to lift so as not to damage your back, making sure you bend at the knees & that you do not twist in any way.

You could also write about the correct way to lift for your safety. Then say that children need to be held securely so they feel safe & so you will not drop them even if they wriggle. Babies need to be lifted by fully supporting them under their head & the length of their body.

Once children are able to walk you should not really be lifting them.

Hi Jen welcome to Silkysteps.

This PDF from www.ohcow.on.ca is great - Safe Lifting brochure - Children, Toddlers, babies and manual handling - it's an excellent source for reference. I'm not sure if it's published in the UK, so best Check it's ok to submit/keep it as evidence.

Slipped disc from NHS direct.nhs.uk

Enjoy the site
