strategies to help children to feel welcome
 

please help i am trying to find ideas about strategies to help children to feel welcome and valued in a setting

hi dont know if this will help as im not even up to that question yet, nut how about greeting each child individually as they come in,smiling and asking how they are.not to discourage comferters for those who are finding it difficult to settle.have activities out that help children feel at ease.interact at all times,listen to what they have to say,value their opinion,and generallly make their time at nursery a happy experience.hope this helps. ggod luck. Greeting them in a friendly way, helping them seperate from their parents/carers/ finding out about their interests, including them in activities, encouraging them to make friends, valuing them as an individual eg their culture and background, if they are EAL find out a few phrases in their language, or have a "hello" display in lots of languages, display the children's work, praise and reward the children, spend time getting to know them, if possible, let the child have a peg where they can keep their stuff, having a positive relationship with their parents, help them feel welcome through a "settling in" routine eg visits to the setting with parents, spending an hour or so there without their parents etc..Circle time where children have a chance to have their say and feel valued....
