Where i work as part of a childs induction to the nursery, they are required to have a pair of wellies and waterproofs. Waterproofs can't guarantee they wont get a little dirty, but are a great way of covering children up so that they dont get absolutely caped in mud or soaked by rain. We are a nursery which spends alot of time outside so waterproofs are essensial. We go out in all weathers and the only time we would not go out would be if it was absolutely terential rain or wind. the children love it and with a few gazebos we find that anything we can do indoors can be done outdoors as well.

We use "Free flow " play and I find that a builders tray brought from B/Q or focus is a must! we use it for mark making with sand with cars ,twigs or brushes. We also use it for small world - dinosaurs in sand or bark with rocks and wood, or water with shells, rocks sea life or a present bark plastic hibernating animals, us can use it for almost any activity. We also have pop up tents with cushions, books and a tool box with lots of mark making items in it.We use drain pipes, milk crates, for cars.We have big logs for the children to sit on also tyres. We have made our own petrol pump for our bikes and own traffic lights. We also have a pop up goal/balls.Wallpaper on the fence for the children to paint on,Strips of material for the children to thread through the fence. We find the children really enjoy outdoor play, better than indoor!
