I have just got my CCLD certificate, and this is what I put for that point.

"The consumer protection act 1987 & toy (safety) regs 1995 are there to prevent toys etc. from being sold that could be dangerous for children to use. Manufacturers guidelines are there to ensure that the equipment is used in the correct and safest way, so as to eliminate any possiblity of injury through incorrect usage. All toys and equipment should also have the CE mark as a sign of passing legal EU safety requirements. The British standards industy's Kite Mark - this indicates that it has been additionally tested and deemed safe for the British public to use - the other safety mark to be aware of is provide by the Toy and Hobby Association - the lion mark ."

Hope it helps.

Hi and welcome to the site.

All manufacturer's guidelines are recommendations on how equipment should be stored and used. These are guidelines that may well of been published based on tests and standard attainment that in turn enables the manufacturer to pass and display safety regulation symbols - kite mark / BS marks, CE marking ..

This thread is from the Lv 2 forum and has an excellent real life exerience shared.

Not following guidelines could result in injury, harm and potentially death. These are also possible situations for liable as the responsibility and accountability to use them in accordance with guidelines will almost certainly fall to the owner/user/installation operator.

BSI educations page to explain safety markings

Would it help if you looked out for some packaging within your setting and checked what the manufacturer/supplier guidelines advise and then look to see how they are put into practice/what happens with the resource or equipment ordinarily, when it's used day to day?
