CYP 3.7 2.2 designing services around a child or young person

Hi, recognising that everyone is unique is a first step for seeing the importance. Each child and young person will have a differing set of needs, requirements and barriers that can prevent them accessing ways of achieving success.

The five outomes of every child matters provides a requirement for settings to aim high for the children in their care ensuring they have the opportunity to acheive each one of them. It's also ECM that each country's early years framework is in existance for, to fulfil - eyfs, foundation phase, foundation stage, pre-birth to 3 & curriculum for excellence. Children's trusts are designed to achieve the outcomes of ECM through identifying needs, refferal and multi agency working - what are children's trusts from DoH

You'll need a way to find out what the child's views, ideas, preferences and what their own goals are, their stage of development - the area early years practioners can contribute significantly too, and if there are any medical needs, disability, impairements to be taken into account. Working with parents and carers will also enable you to find out about cultural and background information.

To help accomplish this..
  • understand how important an individual is, their circumstances and their background.
  • be able to listen to what's said verbally and non verbally
  • be able and willing to ask questions
  • allow the time necessary for information to be given, for it to be understood and absorbed.
  • work with children and young people to share ideas and experiences
  • organise and plan with care
About CAF common assessment framework on CWDC and an introductory explanation from Wigan.gov.uk

CAF is part of ECM which is part of children's act 2004 which was the result of the Laming report in response to Victoria Climbié's tragic death.
If interested this 2008 article on infed.org ECM a critique by David Hoyle is an informative read.

There are many services in existance to support children and their families identifying the right or appropriate ones saves time, expense and provides families with what they need, when they need it helping again to ensure the outcomes of ECM are possible.

Services and professional teams are varied, they'll include organisations such as ..

Health services
Education services
Social services

Child and family health services - health visitors
Family support teams

Extended care - out of school, breakfast & after school groups

Behaviour and education support team services - BESTs work currently as part of an LA. They may provide ..
Learning mentors

School advisors - assisting with peer mentoring & mediation schemes, problem solving, conflict resolution, anger management

You may be able to cross reference this to some of the information gathered through CYP3.6 Working together for the benefit of children & young people.

Team around the child

There is a term 'assest based community development' which is an approach that intends to build on the strengths of neighbourhoods & communities rather than focussing on problems and what's missing - about on well-being wales & the USA Illinois based abcd institue website it may be interesting to see if this is something your locality has involvement with.

You may find this thread and Abraham Maslows heirarchy of needs of interest.

Where possible please see the guidance given in the level 3 diploma handbook

I need some help on this question please

explain why it is important to identify children and young people's play needs and preferences

Ruthierhyme 07-17-2014 11:50 AM

Hi, welcome to silkysteps. If you look in contrast to this, without identifying children's play needs and preferences you'd be unable to plan for their interests, support their individual learning and developmental needs or fulfil the requirements of your home nation's early years framework.

Best wishes

Hi Ruthierhyme this is how my tutor has set out this unit and im confused on how to write/start it:
CYP37 - 2.2

In order to answer this question, you will need to explain why it is important to design services around a child's individual needs.

Think about:

• Why should the planning of how to help a child or young person be made around thier specific individual needs
• Why would this need to be done
• Why could this not be delivered in a general way
