Pirates

this is one of my favourite topics.

Two years ago for summer holidays for the kindergarten class I had this was the theme. I thought it would only last a couple of weeks but it continued through the hols. We had watches{grouped children} bells{this in naval terms signaled the end of a work shift} rations{food} terms we used for breaks etc. and if i said snack time id get reprimanded.

The food ,we tried pirate recipies and even had grog-----orange juice.

We made a large pirate ship out of boxes and material including the pirate flag. All the pirates wore head scarves, old trousers cut up shorter, stripy socks. Some even wore eye patches.
We made parrots which we decorated with all sorts of colourfull things.Made our own treasure chests out of shoe boxes.
On hot days we even had too walk the plank when all the children threw water at you as you reached the end of the plank ,a bench turned upside down.
Port and starboard was one of the games we played, also had a treasure hunt for which each child drew a clue. Lots of goodies for a party were found in the decorated box.
I could go on but am needed in the bar,we run a pub.
Enjoy this theme.
