Default SHC32 3.1 Evaluate own knowledge, performance and understanding against relevant standards

Hi all.

New here.

Iam on this question of the level 3 specialist support in teaching and learning in schools.
This question requires evidence. It can't just be essay style. How does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to produce a piece for my portfolio of evidence?

Thank you.

Hi, welcome to the site :)

This is a quote from the 2013 STL National Occupational Standards booklet on gov.uk

What are the standards and the accompanying online guidance?
The National Occupational Standards are statements of performance that describe what a person needs to do, know and understand in their role. Together with the on-line guidance, the standards provide a comprehensive framework that reflects, informs and guides developments in the roles and activities carried out by staff supporting teaching and learning in schools.

Are support staff expected to meet all the standards?
The 69 units of the National Occupational Standards describe the skills and knowledge that learning support staff need to do their jobs effectively. Individual members of support staff are not expected to meet all 69 units, only those related to their role.

Pages 10+ then list the title of the NOS with a short description so you can pick out which apply specifically to your role, from there you can see which work products you might be able to collect & use for evidence eg. your job description/roles, duties and responsibilities, reflective accounts, planning, observations to show how your role links to eg. STL4 - Support literacy and numeracy activities
STL9 - Observe and report on pupil performance:
STL12 - Support a child with disabilities or special educational needs
STL19 - Promote positive behaviour

Hope this helps

Thank you so much.

This is a draining question! Finding the portfolio of evidence quite tricky

It is a big criteria, the number of standards for the TA sector can make it seem overwhelming, but do only select the ones most relevant to your role/what you do in your setting & if in doubt your tutor will be able to help xx

This thread outlines some of the products you could use to build your portfolio: http://www.silkysteps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20624

and this portfolio list on Open.ac.uk is most useful

Best wishes
