EYMP5: support children's speech language and communication

Explain how speech, language and communication skills support each of the following areas of development?

Learning:
-- Babies use sounds and facial expressions to communicate needs and express themselves.
-- Toddlers use words and gestures to make onnections and develop their knowlegde and understanding (eg. 'All gone').
-- Pre-school children ask questions and make sense of the responses, they use words to express their ideas and develop their understanding.

Emotional:
-- Babies use sounds and facial expressions to develop an attachment and relationship with their main carers.
-- Toddlers use words and body language to express their feelings (eg.temper tantrums)
-- Pre-school children use speech and language to express ther feelings and exert their independance (eg. 'I want to do it').
Behaviour:

Social and behavioural:
-- Babies use sounds and facial expressions in responding to adult interactions (eg. smiling, cooing and gurgling).
-- Toddlers use words and gestures to interact with other, starting to understand the word 'no'.
-- Pre-school children use speech and language to intereact with others and develop friendships; understanding how the rules of behaviour are communicates 9 eg. 'We don't hurt each other.').

i used www.thecommunicationtrust.org.uk and www.ican.org.uk and talkingpoint EYMP5 will come in handy when you do your cypop 15 unit http://www.silkysteps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17430

you need to write how SLC is used when we are learning for example listening, communicating etc and how these help us learn, emotional - less likely to throw tantrums when their skills in SLC have grown and they are understanding more behaviour- once a child understands language they can begin to understand the consequences of their actions etc
social- allows children to understand the feelings of others and ways we may interact
hope this gives you some ideas to expand on if you need anything else just ask x

Hi, this is what I put, hope it helps.

a. Speech, language and communication skills support learning development because they help a child to understand what is being seen or provide a way that afterwards the child can communicate what they have seen. A child can ask questions and we can then pass on information verbally that helps them make connections and understand concepts.

b. Speech, language and communication skills support emotional development because controlling emotions is a large part of emotional development and if children become frustrated, angry or jealous and can’t communicate their feelings they may have a tantrum. But as their skills develop they can name their emotions and find other ways of expressing them.

c. Speech, language and communication skills support behaviour because once a child understands language they can begin to understand the consequences of their actions and start to think things through, becoming less impulsive.

d. Speech, language and communication skills support social development as children can start to recognise how others feel by watching their body language and listening to what they say and learn to adjust their behaviour accordingly. Children also start to understand social codes and how to behave appropriately.
