Hi Tam,
A an explanation of each of the following terms: SPEECH – this is where sounds are formed and the child will begin to learn phonemes. Babies will begin with cooing sounds and then around 6-9 months they will begin to blend vowels and consonants together such as DA or MA this is referred to as the pre-linguistic stage and once a young child begins to say their first words usually around 12 months this is referred to as linguistic stage. LANGUAGE- can be used through set of symbols, written, signed and spoken that is used between people and is a structured way of communicating. COMMUNICATION- can be done through a variety of ways including speech, language, body language, facial expressions, eye contact and gestures; we may also communicate through telephones, e-mails, texts and letters. SPEECH, LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION NEEDS- the needs of a child could be they are having trouble hearing which could result in delayed speech or communicating, they may find certain words hard to pronounce, have a stutter, or a child who does not make eye contact or dislikes being around others could have global communication needs. hope it gives you some ideas x |
