becoming a childminder, what costs involved?

Hi,
I currently work in a local pre school and am qualified to level 3. I am very interested in becoming a childminder.

I understand I need to go to the introductory/briefing on childminding then go down the route of the CHiP 6 session course and 12 hour paediatric first aid course. I can't find any reference to the cost of the childminding course except a £25 deposit. I need to plan my finances:wide-eyed

Does it differ depending on region or is it across the board?

Many thanks in advance:smile:

the responsibility to train you stands with your local authority and everyone is different so you need to contact them directly.

Contact your local family information services, I paid for my childminding CYPOP 5 course, I then went on a childminder briefing session and was informed that it was funded by them. I had all of my money refunded. Contacts PACEY, it's the new NCMA (childminding agency).
If you can't get it funded I paid approx £180.

The course is really good and you get text book (I did). I'm not sure if your are with OFSTEAD or CSSIW but have a look at the application form, I am with CSSIW and it was 52 pages long, it took a while to register but so worth it.

Good Luck

Just backing up the posts above. It really does depend in your county whether your training is funded or not and the requirements of inspecting bodies differ too. I happened to be lucky in that my county paid for my training and I also received a grant once I became registered, if I lived in the next town (still in Wales but different county) I would have had to pay out for it all.
Your local Family Information Service will point you in the right direction
Good Luck
